School will be starting in less than a month!
Summer definitely has many more days left in it, but as the teachers and I meet and prepare for the school year it seems like school is just around the corner. Throughout August be looking for the newsletters to resume as I keep you all posted about upcoming dates, trips, and volunteer opportunities. Here are a few…
Bridget has a new email address: email@example.com
For those of you on the Board, garden volunteers, the Junior High Committee, or Blueprint Committee, Bridget would appreciate if you could send out a group email in the near future and she can have all those groups in one spot again. In the process of getting the new email she lost her contacts and will be starting from scratch. Thanks!
Nuts and Bolts Announcements:
School starts on Tuesday, September 1st.
You will all receive your parent mailers in the next week or so. This will contain the updated Parent Handbook as well as all pertinent forms to be filled out for the first day of school.
The school hours are slightly longer this year. School begins at 8:15-8:40. All students should be at school no later than 8:40. School is over at 3:30.
There will be extended day on Tuesdays and Thursdays and there is more information about that below.
Picture day is on September 17.
Lower El Gardening Opportunity:
Bridget is looking for volunteers to continue helping in the garden this fall. This is a great opportunity for parents to work one-on-one with a small group of children as they continue the fantastic work begun in the spring. Parents should be willing to help the children maintain the existing garden plots, make salads, and perhaps do some more planting. We need two volunteers on Tuesdays and two volunteers on Thursdays from about 8:30-10:30. Garden days will start on 9/15 and there will be a garden meeting after school with Bridget on 9/10. If you are interested in volunteering please contact Bridget at: firstname.lastname@example.org
Upper El Gardening will also be continuing. Volunteers from last year will be continuing into the fall, but if you would like to volunteer as well, please contact Michele at: email@example.com.
Third year families are invited to meet with Michele on August 24th or 25th to discuss their student and the upcoming school year. If you would like to schedule a meeting please email Michele at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Upper El camping trip is being planned and several parents have contacted Michele about going on the trip. If you are volunteering for this trip, please meet with Michele at the school on August 24 at 5:30. If you are unable to attend please contact Michele at: email@example.com
Extended day this year will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays with Michele working on Tuesdays and Bridget on Thursdays from 3:30-4:30. Snack will be available and, just as last year, there is a $4/hour fee. It will start on 9/15 so there is no extended day the first two weeks of school and it ends on May 26th so there is no extended day after Memorial Day. Please make note of these additional days of no extended day during the school year: November 19, December 17, January 21 and 28. This is a great opportunity for students to continue any work of their choosing in a relaxed after-school environment.
New students are invited to the Lower El classroom on August 25 from 10-11. This is a student-only opportunity for new Lower El students to spend an hour in the classroom getting oriented to the space and to choose a work for the first day of school.
Friday Enrichment Program Will have a meeting at the school on 8/26 from 5:00-6:00 to discuss the details of this fabulous opportunity. The Friday Enrichment Program will be a parent-led childcare cooperative. The intention is for there to be a theme each Friday with a rotating group of parents (2 per week) who will lead the students in a learning opportunity. If you have questions prior to the meeting or are interested in participating, but can not attend the meeting, please contact Cheri or Marnin.
