Newsletter 5/22/14

Dear Six Rivers Montessori Families,

Sunny skies, towering oaks, big leaf maples, soccer balls bouncing around, North Fork of the Mad River flowing by, BBQ treats, delicious garden salads, playing in the woods, circle and song, baseball on a field of dreams – this is community and this is sacred.

Many thanks to our Community Events Committee for organizing the 2nd Annual SRM Picnic at Camp Bauer. It was a day to remember!

And for the SRM Picnic Baseball Game record books…

-Jason Gabriel hit the first grand slam ever

-Jason Gabriel was also the first to have a two-home run game

-Michael Schroer hit one out of the park in his SRM picnic debut and had an amazing outfield catch

Start practicing for next year’s game, moms & dads!

Wishing everyone a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend. Remember, there is no school on Monday, 5/26. See ya Tuesday!

1. UPPER ELEMENTARY FORUM – TUESDAY, MAY 27TH

The Upper Elementary forum is scheduled for Tuesday, May 27th 6:00-7:30PM. Third year families are invited to the Upper Elementary forum. The forum will focus on transitions and changes going into next year. This is a very important forum for upper elementary parents to attend. Please be in contact if for reason you cannot make it.

The forum will include a potluck dinner here at school. The school will provide pizza, but we ask families to bring salad, drinks and dessert if they can.

3rd years: salad
4th years: drinks
5th years: dessert

2. MINI-CLASSES, JUNE 9TH & 10TH

This is your opportunity, parents, to share special talents, skills or presentations with our students. It can be at school. It can be a field trip. I surprisingly haven’t heard from anyone yet!

Similar to last year, we are opening up the opportunity for parents or people you might know to offer “mini-classes” to our students. The idea is to open up our students to the knowledge and skills that members of our community have to share. Last year, for example, mini-classes included Brown sharing his shark research here at school, and a field trip to both Arcata Scoop and Los Bagels to learn how those respective eateries made their products.

Do you or someone you know have something you’d like to share? Be in contact with me and we can discuss how to make it happen.

3. SPRING PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCE SIGN UPS

Conferences are right around the corner! Please sign up for a conference with Bridget or Rebecca on the big calendar in the entranceway.

5. TUITION PLEDGE FORMS – DUE JUNE 2ND

Thanks to all who attended the Potluck Tuition meeting last week and for renewing your commitment to sustain our school.

Please make sure to turn in your tuition pledge form by June 2nd. Timely submission of these forms is important so that our financial team can solidify the budget for the upcoming school year. Remember that your pledge forms are kept confidential – only the Office Manager sees them.

If you have any questions or need to discuss the tuition process further please be in touch with me.
