Dear Six Rivers Montessori Families,

If you did not receive a letter from me yesterday at drop-off or pick-up you can find it attached to this newsletter. The letter is in regards to future site and Junior High plans. Please remember that myself and Board members are available to answer any questions you have regarding the plans and/or process.

Thanks to all for making it a lovely evening last night at the Thanksgiving potluck. A special thanks to our Community Events Committee for putting the event together and making it happen.

May you all have a beautiful Thanksgiving break!

1. JUNIOR HIGH COMMITTEE MEETING – TUESDAY, DECEMBER 3RD

The Junior High Committee will hold its first meeting on Tuesday, December 3rd from 5:00 – 6:30 at the school. This new committee is tasked with formulating a plan and course of action to launch our Junior High program in the Fall of 2015. All are invited to attend and/or join the committee.

2. HOLIDAY GIFT BASKET FUNDRAISER

Hopefully you have received your pre-sale holiday basket flyer this week at school. Attached is an envelope to put your cash/check.

As posted on the flyer, each basket sells for $20-30 and will contain many beautiful handcrafted items made or donated by SRM families. Please return the pre-sale orders by Monday, December 9th to the labeled box above the cubbies.

Thank you to everyone who has signed up to donate items for the baskets. There were a few folks who signed up for a basket contribution, but were not sure of the item yet.

In addition, maybe you never got to sign up to contribute and you have lots of strawberry jam, nature photo postcard, seeds or something creative brewing to share with your SRM community. That’s cool, we will take your last minute inspiration to add to our super groovy basket collection.

Gift Basket Timeline Dates
Pre-Sale of Baskets – Now through Monday, December 9th
Drop Off Your Baskets Contribution Items – Monday, December, 9th – Thursday, 13th (There will be a box inside the school to self-check your items in)
Perishable Drop Off – Monday, 16th

Please contact Rachel with any questions.

3. UPPER ELEMENTARY PORTFOLIOS

When the Upper Elementary students return from the November holiday break, they will begin the BIG work of compiling their mid-year portfolios. One component will involve self-evaluation. Another aspect will be the co-evaluation of completed work, in conjunction with Rebecca. Finally, Rebecca will add her reflections on each student’s development as it relates to the Montessori Method. These portfolios will be going home with the students before the December holiday break.

4. DECEMBER TUITION

Tuition for December is due by Thursday, December 5th on the week after break. Thanks for being on time.

5. ONGOING ANNOUNCEMENTS

Calypso Band Field Trip – Friday, December 6th

A field trip has been organized to attend the HSU Calypso Band performance on Friday, December 6th. This is not a full school day, just a special trip!

Staff will receive your children at the Library Circle at 10:40 AM. Please pick up your children at the same location at 11:45.

We do need 1-2 parents to help with chaperoning. Your ticket will be covered by the school. Let me know if you can help.

If your child cannot attend the event, please let us know beforehand.

Field Trip Payment – 2013/14

We are asking $20 for each child to pay for the HSU shows we will see this year and help offset the general costs of field trips. This money will cover two shows at HSU ($13) and the remainder ($7) will go into the general field trip fund to help reimburse drivers for gas and cover other costs that arise on our trips.

Please note that certain trips organized throughout the year may have their own costs associated with them that families will be asked to help cover.

Please submit your payment into the little field trip money box located in the entranceway. If you pay with cash, please put your name with it somehow.

Lower Elementary Portfolios

The portfolios for Lower Elementary students will be available for pick up on the Monday following Thanksgiving Break. Your children look forward to sharing their work with you!
