Newsletter 10/31/13

Dear Six Rivers Montessori Families,

Happy Halloween! Thanks to Hope, Natalia, Josh, Cija, Jesse, Ami, Teresa, and Sue for driving and chaperoning at the Halloween House. It was quite a blast. Hope you all have a fun and safe night.

The following from Autumn…

Many Thank Yous go out this week to those who helped decorate the classroom with Marigolds as part of our celebration of Dia de los Muertos. Thank you to growers, Lila & Ed Cohen and Dave Feral for growing over 1,000 blooms. Thank you to Lila and Ray for harvesting. Thank you to Karen (Savanah’s grandma) for helping with the garland process. And thanks to all the students who made garlands. With the masks and papel picado flags, the classroom is festive and inviting! -Autumn

1. CANCELLATION – COMMUNITY SITE MEETING

We have chosen to cancel the community wide meeting regarding our site that was scheduled for this coming Tuesday, November 5th. Our apologies for the late notice. All families will receive a letter soon announcing our plans for the elementary site.

2. OPERA A LA CARTE @ NPA – MONDAY, NOVEMBER 4TH

Several SRM students will be performing with Opera A La Carte at NPA on Monday, November 4th at 10:00AM. Our whole school will be attending the performance and we do NEED DRIVERS to make this happen. Furthermore, all SRM families are invited to attend the performance. It will be held in the sanctuary on the NPA campus at the Methodist Church on 1761 11th Street in Arcata. Please contact me ASAP if you can drive SRM children to the performance and back. We will return to school by 11:15.

3. BI-WEEKLY LIBRARY TRIPS

In order to get our children more time in the library we are scheduling bi-weekly trips to the Humboldt County Library. Only 7 children will go on each trip and they can sign up at school to go. We are looking for a parent that would be willing to drive for the first trip this Wednesday, November 6th. You would depart from school at 1:15 and have the kids back by 3:00. You can use Bridget’s car (which takes 7 kids) for transportation. If you are interested in being a regular driver for these trips, that would be awesome! The second trip is scheduled for Wednesday, November 20th.

4. HOLIDAY GIFT BASKET FUNDRAISER – CONTRIBUTION COMMITMENTS WANTED

We are putting together our sweet holiday gift baskets for fundraising again this year. We are asking for contribution commitments by Monday, November 4th.

This is a wonderful group collaboration that you and your family can take part in. Holiday basket items have included origami ornaments, air plants, canned goods, seed packets, tea blends, candles, magnets, fudge, lip gloss, soaps, etc.

We are hoping to gauge the amount of baskets we can pre-sale in the month of November, so your quick response is much appreciated. Items will be collected the first week of December.

Fundraising Committee

5. DAY OF THE DEAD

We will be celebrating Day of the Dead on this coming Monday, November 4th. We encourage children to bring photos of ancestors (not pets) that they want to honor on our Day of the Dead altar. Please include a small placard or note with the person’s name on it. Children will be given the opportunity to tell a short story about the ancestor they are honoring.

6. TUITION DUE – TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 5TH

A reminder that tuition is due by Tuesday, November 5th. Please have your tuition submitted on time. If you have extenuating circumstances and cannot have your tuition in on time please be in contact.

7. THANKSGIVING POTLUCK – NOVEMBER 21ST

Mark your calendars! Our Thanksgiving Potluck will be held the evening of Thursday, November 21st at the Methodist Church in Arcata. More details to come in next newsletter.

8. ERROR – “FIEDLER”

There was an error in last week’s newsletter which included contact information for the Fiedler family. Their last name was spelled incorrectly. Please note the correct spelling
